United Kingdom

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is an island country off the north-western coast of continental Europe. Its currency is the British pound, issued by the Bank of England.

The economy of the United Kingdom is the third-largest in Europe. Its main trading partners are Germany, the United States, the Netherlands and France.

The UK was the world’s first industrialised country and the leading great power during the 19th and early 20th centuries. In part thanks to this history, the UK has significant economic, cultural and political influence.

Its capital, London, is one of the two largest financial centres alongside New York. It’s main market, the London Stock Exchange, is the world’s 4th largest stock exchange.
