    Japan (Japanese: 日本, Nihon or Nippon) is an island nation in East Asia. Its currency is the Japanese yen, issued by the Bank of Japan. The Tokyo Stock Exchange is the largest marketplace in Asia.

    The economy of Japan is the world’s 3rd largest. It is a net importer of commodities such as food, oil and metals and one of the largest exporter of manufactured goods such as cars and electronics.

    Its largest trading partners are China, the United States and South Korea. It also imports large quantities of raw materials from Australia and Saudi Arabia.

    Japan is the world’s largest creditor nation, generally running an annual trade surplus and having a considerable net international investment surplus.
